Liverpool midfielder Lucas named MBNA North West Player of the Year

LIVERPOOL midfielder Lucas was named the North-West’s Premier League Player of the Year last night, at a major awards ceremony.

The event, sponsored by MBNA and held at Lancashire County Cricket Club in Manchester, awarded excellence both on and off the field.

Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas won the premier player award, while Everton’s Jill Scott was the Female Player of the Year.

The Blues also celebrated the Community Scheme of the Year, while Liverpool FC won the award for Best Use of New Media.

Tranmere striker Enoch Showunmi was named League One Player of the Year, while Southport’s Tony McMillan collected the Blue Square Bet Premier Player of the Year trophy.

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor was presented with a Lifetime Contribution to Northwest Football award.

The event was hosted by Sky Sports News presenter Ed Chamberlin and attended by players, former players, managers and other big names from the world of Northwest football.
