Rodolfo Borrell’s side failed to take their chances but they will go into next Wednesday’s final NextGen Series group match away to Sporting Lisbon on the back of a three-game unbeaten run.
Robbie Cotton and Jose Morris went close for Rovers early on last night before Reds striker Adam Morgan saw his attempted lob kept out by keeper Jake Kean.
Raheem Sterling thought he had broken the deadlock when he rounded Kean and fired home but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Conor Coady forced a good save from Kean who was called into action again early in the second half to turn away Suso’s cross-shot.
Just before the hour mark Reds keeper Tyrell Belford had to be at his best to save Morris’ strike.
Nick Blackman shaved the bar for Rovers but it was Liverpool who almost grabbed a winner late on.
Sterling raced into the box after a one-two with Michael Ngoo but he couldn’t beat the keeper who then parried Morgan’s drive.
Coady saw his header blocked on the line and Ngoo nodded the rebound over as the Reds were denied.
