Tommy Smith on LFC: Our new owners are proving as good as their word

IT is fantastic to hear of the excitement and ambition from club chairman Tom Werner and John Henry.

Unlike the previous two clowns who abused our great club, Werner and Henry have been as good as their word in making sure we get the support we need. Well over £100m has been spent since January and given where we were and what we’ve been through, that is a hell of an investment and achievement.

They not only sound sincere and different class compared to Hicks and Gillett - but have proved as good as their word in backing the club.

For me, a crucial difference is that they are not just businessmen, but genuine sports fans too. Ok baseball is their first love and soccer may have literally been a whole new ball game for them. But they’ve largely kept their mouths shut and their eyes and ears open as they look, listen and learn what the English game and Liverpool in particular, is all about.

Hearing Tom Werner talk about how the fervour of the fans and the scenes of joy after Istanbul are inspiring them, must leave every Liverpool supporter with a sense of growing reassurance about their winning intent and their methods.

Werner and Henry have delivered. Now it’s up to every one they’ve put their faith in to give their absolute all in return.
