ALBERTO AQUILANI says he is happy to stay at Anfield as he insisted: “I’d love to make my mark at Liverpool.”
The midfielder scored the winner as Italy beat world champions Spain 2-1 in Bari last night.
Aquilani spent last season on loan at Juventus and has been linked with a return to Serie A all summer. However, a move to Fiorentina fell through and interest from AC Milan has failed to prompt an official approach.
“All I can say is that there has been a lot of talk,” he said.
“I wasn’t following the Italian media much over the summer, but whatever happens I am at a great club like Liverpool.
“I’d love to make my mark at Liverpool. The transfer market is open until August 31 so we’ll see what happens.
“Obviously I would take the offer of a permanent move into consideration with Liverpool.”
Riccardo Montolivo gave Italy the lead after 11 minutes but Xabi Alonso levelled for Spain from the penalty spot after Giorgio Chiellini had fouled Fernando Llorente.
Aquilani got the winner late on when his shot from the edge of the box deflected past Victor Valdes. Pepe Reina was an unused substitute for Spain.
