John Aldridge: No place for sick chants at any game
A CRACKING game at Anfield on Sunday was marred by the behaviour of a minority of Manchester United fans.
I was close to the Anfield Road end and the derogatory songs about Heysel and Hillsborough turned my stomach.
You don’t want to hear things like that at any game but for it to happen at a Youth Cup game in front of so many families was sick. I was speaking to one of the Liverpool players afterwards who said he could hear what the fans were signing and he was gutted about it.
United have got good fans but sadly a small percentage can spoil it for everyone.
Liverpool’s staff were magnificent the way they dealt with the problems. The idiot who lit the flare was arrested and others were thrown out.
Nobody, regardless of who they support, should go to a game and sing songs like that. Anyone who does isn’t a fan. It needs to be stamped out.
It’s a shame because everyone should have been talking about what a great game it was.
Liverpool were cruising prior to the sending off of Stephen Sama. After that United’s mentality shone through. They have this belief in themselves and won a game in which they were second best.
The Reds need to pick themselves up and learn from their mistakes. It’s part of the process of becoming a better player.
This is the best youth team I’ve seen at Liverpool and I believe four or five have a great chance of making it to the first team.
