I’m devastated about Liverpool, claims Mascherano

JAVIER MASCHERANO says he’s devastated to see Liverpool slumped in the Premier League drop zone.

The Argentina midfielder left the club under a cloud back in August after slamming in a transfer request and refusing to play against Manchester City in August.

Mascherano got the move he wanted to Barcelona but insists Anfield remains close to his heart.

“I view what’s going on there with sadness,” he said.

“Liverpool are a club that gave me a lot. I have friends there and affection for the club.

“It is unfortunate that they are in this rare and difficult situation.

“With the players they have and the club they are, they will pick themselves up, it’s just strange to see them in the situation there are in today.”

Mascherano has so far struggled to hold down a place in the Barcelona side but says he’s enjoying life in La Liga.

“I have been improving with every game and will continue to do so,” he said. “I came when the league had already started and everything was a change, but my team-mates and coach have made me feel very comfortable.

“I am trying to learn things every day, and take in new ideas about the game.”
