Liverpool FC News: CHRISTIAN PURSLOW is convinced that New England Sports Ventures would supply plenty of cash for signings if their agreed takeover goes through.

The owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball team are fronted by businessman John W Henry, who is pushing through a deal to take control of Liverpool.

“You don’t spend £300m on buying a sports team for it to be a mediocre team,” said the Reds managing director. “They aren’t going to put numbers into the public domain but it’s simple, they want to win.

“Investment in players is a key component of success in most professional sports. That was the approach they took with Boston and that’s the approach I’m sure they will take with Liverpool.

“If they buy Liverpool I would expect them to be very visible around the business.

“They’re deadly serious about wanting to succeed. I can’t imagine they would be hands-off for one minute.”
