Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez hits out at Anfield board

FORMER Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has launched a stinging attack on the Anfield board. The Inter Milan boss endured a strained relationship with the club’s hierarchy last season before he parted company with the Reds in June. “The last year at Liverpool I had directors who knew nothing about soccer and you couldn’t talk about soccer with them,” the Spaniard said. “My relationship with (Inter Milan) president Massimo Moratti is good, he is a man who knows his soccer.” Benitez took over at Liverpool in June 2004 and led them to Champions League glory in 2005 and an FA Cup victory in 2006. But the Premier League title eluded him and he left the club in the summer after a disappointing seventh placed finish. Benitez did not name names but owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett as well as chairman Martin Broughton, managing director Christian Purslow and commercial director Ian Ayre sit on the club’s five-man board.
