JACK RODWELL will make his full England debut against Sweden at Wembley tonight after receiving another glowing endorsement from Fabio Capello.
The 20-year-old was highly praised by the England manager courtesy of his second half cameo during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Spain, and will complete a remarkable few days by starting in midfield this evening.
Rodwell, who has now represented his country at every age group, has grown in stature for David Moyes’ Everton team so far this season, and effortlessly translated his fine Premier League form to the international stage at the weekend.
Three Lions boss Capello, who will make eight changes from the side that defeated World Cup 2010 winners Spain, said: “It is really important for me to know the value of some players from how they played against Spain and now Sweden.
“I am really happy because this experiment was positive (against Spain). The players who played, Rodwell, Jones, Welbeck, did really well. For these players it was a really important experience.
“I personally checked these players and I am really happy with the performance and the personality and the confidence they showed.
“It is difficult for young players to play with the confidence that they showed with Spain.
“If these players during the season will (continue to) improve, all these players will be ready to play with us with at the Euros.”
Rodwell spoke of his pride after coming off the bench against Vicente Del Bosque’s men, and was branded “fearless”, alongside Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones, by Capello
Capello could also give Everton defender Leighton Baines a chance to impress, after the left-back was an un-used substitute on Saturday night.
Baines has appeared five times for England, but is still faced with the thorny task of being selected ahead of Chelsea stalwart Ashley Cole.
