TATTENHALL can enter the final weekend of the season safe in the knowledge that their Division Two safety is secured following Saturday’s draw at relegated-threatened Mobberley.
The visitors, having won the toss, got off to a flying start as captain Rob Mulvihll (2-84) profited from a loose stroke before John Gibbon took an excellent close catch to leave the Knutsford outfit at 4-2.
Two should have become three but Nafees Din was downed at mid-off in regulation style – and that proved to be costly as he went on to crack 122 to haul the hosts up to 221-5.
Andrew Morris (2-33) – bowling with good heart and pace at the death – and Michael Roberts (1-33) took the other wickets for Tattenhall, whose reply began with two blistering strokes from ex-Mobberley man Gibbon.
Seeing the new ball fly around the park, the home skipper turned to spin – a decision which reaped immediate reward as Madhur Jethlia was out lbw.
But once star man John Hope (79no) was joined at the crease by Paul Kettle (45), Tattenhall were never in danger and they ended on 193-3.
