Cricket: Century sees Iroshan de Silva notch up 1,000 runs for Christleton

IROSHAN de Silva’s sixth century of the season saw him smash through the magical 1,000-run barrier on Saturday.

Christleton’s Sri Lankan ace made a majestic 117no, including 17 fours and three sixes, in his team’s victory at Timperley.

Batting first, Christleton scored 237-5.

An opening partnership of 50 between Iroshan and Chris Brooks formed the foundation and further stands between David Bates (37) and Guy Newell (28) allowed skipper Paul Allen to declare after 49 overs.

Timperley were indebted to Patrick Ashling (66) in their reply of 186 all out in 41 overs.

Allen made inroads, bowling Bishop and Ashling, and at 25-3 Timperley were in trouble. They recovered to 108-4, but the spin of Iroshan (4-57) and Guy Newell (3-27) was decisive.

Paul Allen finished with 3-45 as Christleton gained 25 points, keeping themselves in contention for promotion with two games remaining.

Unfortunately for the Little Heath men, top dogs Urmston and Bramhall show no signs of slipping and won again.
