All to play for in grand finale

IT will be a day of reckoning on the Cheshire cricket scene tomorrow, with several relegation and promotion issues still to be resolved on the final Saturday of the season.

Last week’s heavy rain meant hardly a ball was bowled across the county, but that was good news for Alderley Edge as their washout against Bowdon was enough to ensure they could not be caught in the race for the Cheshire County League Premier Division title.

In Division Two, Tattenhall’s home match against leaders Irby was rained off. The men from the Flacca are now out of the promotion picture after Grappenhall dodged the showers and secured second spot with a win over Mobberley on Saturday.

Oakmere need a maximum of 17 points from tomorrow’s home meeting with Ashley to clinch promotion to the Cheshire County League for the first time in the club’s history.

Third-placed Congleton are breathing down Oakmere’s necks and their opponents tomorrow are Malpas, a team fighting to avoid the drop.

In Division Two of the Meller Braggins League, second-placed Barrow stand a chance of claiming the title as they lie only a point behind leaders Northwich.

At the other end of the table, basement Chester County Officers will be relegated if they fail to secure a good result against the division’s top side.

In the Cheshire Alliance, Frodsham have been relegated from Division One while in Division Three Capenhurst are battling it out with Offerton 2nds in a bid to beat the drop.
