Schoolboys: Chester Under 14s go down to undeserved Wirral defeat

CHESTER Schoolboys under 14s suffered Merseyside League heartbreak on Saturday as they went down to an undeserved 2-1 home loss to bogey team Wirral.

Despite creating the better chances, it was not enough to stop our city’s finest from falling to their third defeat of the season to the Merseysiders.

With Ben Gregory lively down the flanks, Liam Blake went close to putting Chester ahead before Russell Griffiths made a top save at the other end. Wirral did beat Griffiths shortly after, though, to take the lead before Danny Williams, Kieran Herron and Sam Parsons went close to equalising.

The Wirral goalkeeper was keeping his side in it, making fine saves from Blake and Sam Davies, and salt was rubbed into the wounds when the visitors doubled their advantage.

But driven on by man of the match and captain Richard Tomassen, Chester dusted themselves down and reduced the deficit when George Nott hammered in a Gregory corner.

And they thought they had levelled the contest in the very last minute when Gregory’s free kick flew in off a Wirral head, only for the strike to be controversially ruled out for offside.

Chester were: Russell Griffiths, Jack Peake, Alex Roddy, George Nott, Sam Parsons, Ben Gregory, Richard Tomassen, Danny Williams, Kieran Herron (Sam Davies), Liam Blake, Joe Williams. Subs: Tom Batten, Otis Chamberlain.
