Schoolboys: Chester Under 14s make flying start to Alcock Cup

CHESTER Schoolboys Under 14s made the perfect start to the Alcock Cup on Saturday as they beat Knowsley 3-0 in their League A opener.

Our county’s finest were without a number of key players through illness and injury, but those that made it were more than up to the task.

In what was their best performance of the season so far, Chester broke the deadlock in the sixth minute when the in-form Ben Gregory slid in bravely to beat the onrushing goalkeeper.

Liam Blake and Gregory then went close to doubling the advantage. But with Joe Williams causing all sorts of trouble for the Knowsley defence and captain Richard Tomassen running the midfield, it came as no surprise when the hosts made it two courtesy of Sam Parsons, who collected Danny Williams’ quickly-taken corner and curled in brilliantly from 18 yards.

It was left up to centre-back George Nott to complete the scoring following another Danny Williams corner.

Joe Williams, Blake, Nott, Rory Hardman and Danny Jarrett went close to adding a fourth for Chester, for whom centre-back Alex Roddy was terrific. It was tireless striker Joe Williams who took home the man-of-the-match award, however.

Chester: Russell Griffiths (Otis Chamberlain), Osian Gillette, Alex Roddy, George Nott, Sam Parsons, Ben Gregory (Jack Peake), Richard Tomassen (Danny Jarrett), Danny Williams, Kieran Herron (Rory Hardman), Liam Blake, Joe Williams.
