Christleton starlets make waves in Lakes

A TEAM from Chester went all the way to the Lake District for a tournament – and returned with the title in the bag.

Christleton New Scene under 10s came through two penalty shoot-outs on their way to winning the Cumbrian Tourna- ment, near Whitehaven.

The trophy skipper Danny Bickerton lifted was donated by West Brom and England goalkeeper Scott Carson, who played junior football for host club Cleator Moore Celtic.

Christleton took two U10 teams to the tournament – the Whites and the Blues.

Having come through the group stages, the two Chester teams met in the quarter-finals – with the Blues winning on penalties.

Spot-kicks were also required in the semi as Christleton beat hosts Cleator Moore, before a final date with Big Rigg Bulls.

Extra-time goals by Jack Rowlands and Emile Prince handed the Chester boys a 2-0 win.
