Basketball: Cheshire Jets world record bid will feature on BBC show Newsround

A WORLD record attempt by the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets will be televised by the BBC.

The club is hoping to set a brand new Guinness world record – for the most people spinning a basketball at the same time.

The attempt will take place at Ellesmere Port Catholic High School on Sunday, July 26 during the Jets’ residential summer camp and will be filmed by the Children’s BBC’s current affairs programme Newsround.

More than 200 campers plus Jets staff, players and camp organisers will take part, attempting to spin a basketball on their finger for a total of three seconds all at the same time.

The attempt will be led by Jets’ head coach Paul Smith.

He has put together a step by step guide to spinning a basketball which has been sent out to camp attendees and can be downloaded from www.jetsbasketball.org.uk

There is currently no record for the most people spinning a basketball simultaneously so this will be a world first.

The event is being covered by Newsround as part of their Sportsround programme and independent adjudicators will be present to witness the attempt and make sure all rules are adhered to.

For details of the summer camp, which is the biggest basketball camp in the UK and attracts entrants from all over Britain, visit the Jets website.
