Jets 77 Everton Tigers 86

TWO in a row proved too high a hurdle for the Jets on Sunday as their play-off aspirations suffered a bitter blow.

Despite beating the Tigers comfortably at the ECHO Arena last Wednesday, the Jets could not repeat the feat a few days later at the Northgate.

The hosts controlled the first half, taking a 22-13 lead as Matt Otten took the score from 10-10 to 16-10 with six points on three possessions. By half time, no side had made any more inroads as Jets led 37-28.

In the second half, the Tigers were a different team.

After levelling the match at 48-48 on a Richard Midgley three in the third quarter, a David Aliu three-pointer gave them the lead for good at 53-50.

Tony Robertson then took over in the fourth with 11 points to keep the Jets at arm’s length throughout.

Despite characteristically consistent scoring for Jayson Obazuaye (24), Trey Moore (20) and Otten (15), the Jets have been left with some serious work to do in order to creep into the play-offs.
