Football: Airbus UK boost their Welsh Premier League top-six hopes with victory

Airbus UK 3 Carmarthen Town 1

AIRBUS’ hopes of grabbing a top-six spot in the Welsh Premier League were given a boost on Saturday as they grabbed maximum points at home to managerless Carmarthen Town.

The Wingmakers need to overhaul a five-point gap between themselves and current sixth-placed side Prestatyn Town in the next three games to secure a top-half finish.

Airbus got off to the worst possible start when Camarthen’s Nick Harrhy got to a loose ball first to power the ball past keeper Niki-Lee Bulmer in the first minute.

But Airbus got back into the game and, in the 61st minute, Craig Whitfield took advantage of poor Carmarthen defensive play to strike home the equaliser.

Four minutes later, Ian Sheridan curled in a shot past Carmarthen’s debutant keeper Rhys Wilson to give the Wingmakers the lead.

Wilson was called into action again on 82 minutes as Gavin Cadwallader fired a shot at him. The ball rebounded off Wilson to Sheridan, who slotted in his second of the game.

Airbus have no fresh injury concerns for Saturday’s game at Newtown (2.30pm).
