A HAT-TRICK by Leighton McGivern saw Motors overcome Bishop’s Stortford in a thrilling clash at Rivacre Park.
The victory keeps Vauxhall clear of the relegation places in the Blue Square Bet North table, but Motors boss Anthony Wright wants to see his team improve defensively.
He said: “I am pleased with the three points but disappointed to concede three goals. We know we will score goals with the attacking players we have, but we need to tighten up at the back.”
Looking ahead to this Saturday’s home match against Eastwood Town (3pm), Wright added: “We are focused on trying to get another three points and hopefully climbing up to mid-table in the process.”
Saturday’s match exploded into life early in the second half, as McGivern netted spectacularly from 20 yards.
However, Stortford – managed by former Tottenham Hotspur keeper Ian Walker – hit back through substitute Daniel Subuola.
A strike from Vauxhall’s Tom Hannigan and a McGivern penalty were cancelled out by goals from Stortford’s Scott Shulton and a Dwight Gayle penalty.
But in the dying minutes, McGivern wrapped up his hat-trick with an emphatic finish.
