Football: Upton AA edge seven-goal thriller with Helsby in Pyke Cup

UPTON AA edged a seven-goal thriller with Helsby to progress in the Pyke Cup.

Will Kelly scored a brace with Nathan Freeman and Richard Smart completing the 4-3 win at Helsby’s Chester Road Ground.

Connor Taylor, Idris Kamara and Darren Moore were on target for the Green Machine who now turn their attentions back to West Cheshire League Division One action on Saturday when they visit Cammell Laird Reserves.

Christleton also crashed out of the cup following a 5-0 home defeat by Castrol Social who had Mark Ryan (2), Tony Ashton, Tom Bowen and Jordan Brierley on target.

Willaston had Richard Foulkes to thank after his hat-trick was enough to see off Marine Reserves’ challenge in a 3-1 win.

In Division Two, a Justin McNally strike was not enough for basement boys Capenhurst Villa as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Kirby Reserves.

In Division Three, Christleton Reserves’ clash at league leaders Hale survived the weather but the Chester outfit may have wished it hadn’t after they lost 4-1, Graeme Davidson on target for the visitors.

Capenhurst Villa Reserves were also on the losing side after they went down 3-0 at home to Ashville Reserves while second-from-bottom Blacon Youth Club Reserves snatched a vital 1-0 victory at Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves thanks to a Damian Rowley strike.

Bottom-of-the-league Malpas shared a thrilling 3-3 draw with Denton Town on Saturday.

A Roy Cardus brace was complimented by a Jon Stubbs strike to seal a share of the spoils for the home side but the draw was not enough to prise Malpas off the bottom of Cheshire League Division Two.

Third-placed Tarporley Vics enjoyed their visit to Mid Cheshire as they completed a 4-1 victory over Barnton.
