Blue Square North: Vauxhall Motors return to bottom after Harrogate Town defeat

VAUXHALL Motors returned to the bottom of the Blue Square North on Tuesday night with a 2-1 home defeat to fellow strugglers Harrogate Town.

Boss Carl Macauley had called for extra concentration for the six-pointer against the Sulphurites, but for once it wasn’t a late lapse that cost the Motormen.

A three-minute spell in the first half did for them instead, with Peter Knox giving the visitors the lead on 31 minutes before former Chester City striker Simon Yeo added a second on 34.

One plus point was loan signing Josh Macauley’s first goal for the club, showing the Tranmere Rovers man may be a useful asset for his month with the Rivacre Park outfit, but Carl Macauley will be disappointed that his side once more took nothing from a key rival in the battle to beat the drop.

“Josh is a great lad, good in the air, is strong holding the ball up and has an eye for goal,” said Carl.

Motors travel to fifth-placed Droylsden on Saturday (3pm) and then second-from-bottom Gainsborough Trinity on Tuesday (7.45pm)

Vauxhall players wore black armbands in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hinckley United to pay tribute to kit manager and club stalwart Brian Paisey, who passed away last week after a long illness.
