Vauxhall Motors 4Ilkeston Town 2
A TURN in fortunes for Motors saw them lift themselves off the bottom of the Blue Square North table.
They put four past visiting Ilkeston on Tuesday night after going 2-0 down within 20 minutes.
A Lee Furlong strike gave the Motormen hope before Josh Wilson levelled the scores. Furlong scored another to give the home side the lead before getting sent off on the hour.
Shortly after, Karl Noon netted a fourth to secure victory.
Motors spokesman Phil Jarvis said: “We’ve been playing well recently but haven’t had the rough of the green.
“After going 2-0 down, other times they would have folded and lost 5-0. Confidence is up and there’s consistency with the same 11 having a run.”
Boss Carl Macauley has backed Motors to escape relegation as they prepare for two crucial home games.
The Motormen shipped 10 goals last week but put the misery behind them on Saturday with a goalless draw at promotion-chasing Eastwood Town.
Macauley, whose team host Hinckley United in a six-pointer this Saturday (3pm) before welcoming Harrogate Town, who now prop up the league, on Tuesday (7.45pm), believes his players can hit good form.
He said: “We showed at Eastwood and we have shown this season that we can perform against the top clubs with the big money in the division. Where we have struggled is against the teams around us.
“We have been here before and we know what we need to do to survive.”
Macauley signed goalscoring winger Lee Dodgson on loan until the end of the season from Fleetwood in a bid to solve problems in front of goal.
