Football: Airbus UK Broughton boss Craig Harrison rues ‘two points lost’
AIRBUS UK Broughton had the stuffing knocked out of them on Boxing Day when lowly Cefn Druids grabbed a Welsh Premier League point at the Airfield with a late goal.
But boss Craig Harrison is making no excuses after his players failed to perform in the 1-1 draw.
“We just didn’t play very well but I think we did enough to win the game and whether you’re playing top of the league or bottom of the league, it’s always annoying when you concede a goal in the last minute or two,” said Harrison.
"It’s points lost more than a point gained. You’ve got to win these games.”
After the pitch passed a morning inspection, the Wingmakers made a dream start when Marc Lloyd-Williams netted with a free header on seven minutes.
The hosts then wasted a number of chances – and had strong penalty appeals turned down – before Druids’ Gary Penlington levelled with five minutes remaining.
Weather permitting, Airbus will be hoping to put things right on Friday (2.30pm) when they make the short return journey to Plaskynaston Lane.
Boss Harrison has been hit with a five-match touchline ban by the FA of Wales after being sent off during the Welsh Cup third-round loss at Gap Connah’s Quay in late October.
In Blue Square North on Monday, Vauxhall Motors put up a good fight against promotion-chasing Fleetwood Town but left the Highbury Stadium empty-handed following a 4-2 defeat.
The hosts went ahead on 36 minutes when Alan Wright’s cross was met by former Motorman Nick Rogan, who beat goalkeeper Danzelle St Louis Hamilton from close range.
Motors pulled level just before the hour mark when keeper Danny Hurst punched the ball straight to Lee Furlong, who cleverly lobbed him.
Fleetwood went ahead four minutes later when Adam Warlow drove home following uncertainty in the Motors defence.
Just two minutes later it was 3-1 thanks to that man Warlow, who went on to complete his hat-trick 10 minutes from time.
Josh Wilson pulled one back with a late penalty for Motors, whose Boxing Day home clash with Northwich Victoria was postponed due to the frost.
Weather permitting, Motors go to Northwich tomorrow (Friday).
