Welsh Premier League: Airbus UK Broughton wants maximum points from derby double header

AIRBUS UK Broughton boss Craig Harrison is expecting six points from his side’s festive double header with struggling Elements Cefn Druids – but he’s fully aware of any potential stumbling blocks.

The Wingmakers have performed heroically against the Welsh Premier League’s leading teams this term but have stuttered somewhat against opposition they were expected to beat.

So Harrison is not going to take Druids lightly, despite the fact the Boxing Day visitors to the Airfield have not won since September 11 and are pointless on their travels this season.

“Both games, we’d be expected to go and win but it’s been a case this season that it hasn’t always gone to plan,” said former Middlesbrough defender Harrison, whose ninth-placed side’s visit of second-placed Llanelli on Saturday was postponed because of a frozen pitch.

“With Welshpool and Bala, we were expected to win both games and we lost both at home so we’re going to try and not take it lightly, as that’s what’s happened in the past when we haven’t played too well and picked up two bad results. But we are looking to take the maximum six points from the two games.

“The important thing is to maybe get an early goal because we haven’t done too well against teams who sit back and defend by getting bodies behind the ball. We are too busy on the offensive and sometimes make silly mistakes at the back. Not just defensively but as a team.

“When we play attacking teams, our concentration seems to be a bit better as they open up and it leaves us space to counter.”

Striker Carl Owen would have been a doubt for Saturday’s clash with Llanelli, but he is fit and raring to go for the Boxing Day home showdown with second-from-bottom Druids (2.30pm).

Airbus, who have been training on the all-weather pitches at Wrexham’s Colliers Park training complex, make the return trip to face the Cefn Mawr outfit on New Year’s Day.
