Blue Square North: Vauxhall Motors held to sixth draw of season

VAUXHALL Motors are fast becoming non-league football’s draw specialists.

Six of the Rivacre Park outfit’s first nine games of the season have ended even. They drew 1-1 at home to Blyth Spartans on Tuesday night after ChrisNoone gave them a fourth-minute lead and that came hot on the heels of Saturday’s 0-0 home stalemate with Gloucester City.

Motors really should have won the latter match despite playing almost all of the second half with 10 men after the sending-off of Robbie Booth.

Substitute Chris Noone and Karl Noon passed up good chances for Vauxhall before Tigers substitute Jack Pitcher came close to grabbing all three points for the visitors a couple of minutes from time.

However, his close-range header was straight at Motors’ keeper Danzelle St-Louis Hamilton and Motors finished with a point.

The Motormen are 14th in Blue Square North going into Saturday’s trip to sixth-placed Ilkeston Town (3pm).

Airbus UK Broughton have secured their first three points of the campaign after what must have been the toughest start of all Welsh Premier clubs.

With games against Llanelli, Rhyl and The New Saints behind them, Haverfordwest County were put to the sword 3-1 at the Airfield on Sunday, with the mercurial Marc Lloyd Williams finding the net once more. The league’s all-time leading goalscorer is top of this season’s charts having scored five times in four games.

It was strike-partner Carl Owen who opened the scoring for the Wingmakers, though, before the South West Walians equalised. Lloyd Williams fired Craig Harrison’s side back in front before turning provider for Matthew Cook.

“We’ve played four strong teams and to have only been beaten once, I couldn’t ask for better,” said boss Harrison.

Airbus – who took on Prestatyn Town last night in a Loosemores Challenge Cup clash that took place after The Chronicle went to press – are away to Aberystwyth Town on Saturday (2.30pm).

Ashley Williams and Ryan Edwards became the first Airbus players to represent Wales when they played for the Under 23s on Tuesday night.
