Football: Airbus UK Broughton ace Paul Hallows on the road to recovery

FOOTBALL is the last thing on the minds of Airbus UK Broughton after news that Paul Hallows has suffered a heart attack.

The 28-year-old striker remains hospitalised following surgery and Wingmakers boss Craig Harrison is just relieved Hallows is on the road to recovery.

“I couldn’t believe it when I first found out on Friday, it’s unbelievable,” said Harrison, whose 11th-placed men welcome struggling Caersws to the Airfield on Sunday (2.30pm).

“I haven’t spoken to his girlfriend but believe he’s a little bit more stable now. I had a text from (former Airbus player) Richard Smart, who is a good friend of his, saying that he is still progressing. He is seriously ill but stable.

“The important thing is that he gets himself well and he’s going to be fine. Which, touch wood, he will be.”

The Wingmakers fell to their second defeat in a month to high-flying Bangor City on Saturday, following their Welsh Cup reverse to the holders, but Harrison could only take positives from the harsh 1-0 away reverse.

“The cup made everyone realise that no-one has a God-given right to play,” said ex-Middlesbrough star Harrison.

“I’ve left Phil Palethorpe out and people must have been thinking, ‘he’s the No1 keeper and he’s going to stay in’. I’ve also left Mark Cadwallader out.

“I think we’ve just made everyone realise that no-one is guaranteed a place in the team and everyone’s got to work hard for it.”

“I’m not going to play anyone on reputation. You’ve got to be doing it week in, week out. As an ex-footballer, I realise that you can have the odd off-game but they have to perform on a regular basis.”

Airbus have the perfect chance to return to winning ways against second--bottom Caersws, who feature a number of former Wingmakers.

Defender Gareth Sudlow is doubtful with a rib injury.
