CRAIG Harrison couldn’t be more proud of his players as Carmarthen Town visit the Airfield tomorrow (2.30pm), writes DAVID BERGIN.
The Airbus UK Broughton boss got the response he demanded against derby rivals GAP Connah’s Quay on Friday in a 3-0 win, with goals from Mark Allen, Gareth Sudlow and Ashley Williams, six days after their Welsh Cup exit.
“We had our disappointments against Bangor and got them out of our system early on in the week,” said Harrison.
“We had a bit of a heart to heart and I told the lads what I expected, and they couldn’t have responded any better.
“The first-half performance was possibly the best we’ve played this season.
“It is probably my proudest moment at the club because for 80 minutes of that game, the lads responded fantastically. We conceded a couple of silly goals late on but even (Nomads boss) Steve O’Shaughnessy said he doesn’t realise how it wasn’t five or six at half-time.
“In all honesty, it could have been something like 8-2. The lads have been fantastic and what a way to respond from such a young group that have had a major kick in the teeth against Bangor, so it’s something to take forward into the game on Saturday.”
The derby win sets Airbus up perfectly for the season’s finale and plans are already in place for next season.
“We’ve got some players discussing new one-year contracts for next year. We don’t want a season like last season where you’re not quite sure who’s going to stay and who’s going to go.
“If you look at the teams that are up there, all have a nucleus of seven or eight players who have been there for a few years, bringing one or two in here or there. That’s no coincidence.”
Paul Hallows and Jon Slater are still injured, loan man George Stewart is wanted back at Wrexham, with Mark Cadwallader and Marc Lovell banned. Keeper Chris Doran could keep his place and Wes Kilgannon is back in the fold.
