Festive bonus for fans

VAUXHALL Motors have slashed admission prices for tomorrow’s game against Harrogate Town in a bid to attract a bumper Christmas crowd.

In a one-off special offer, the Motormen will admit adults for just £5 and children and concessions for £3 – but all children accompanied by an adult will get in free.

The club is hoping the reduced price will encourage fans to go along to the Motassist Arena despite the fact it is the final Saturday before Christmas.

In addition, employees of Vauxhall Motors, which has been hit badly by the credit crunch, will also gain free admission on production of their ID card or a wage slip.

The game could see Motors pitted against a Harrogate team featuring former Leeds and Middlesbrough striker Noel Whelan. The 33-year-old, who signed for Harrogate last week, found the net 79 times in his 15-year professional career.

“It will not be easy,” said Motors chairman Alan Bartlam. “But we are in a good position this year and feel we can look up rather than down.

“We have a good blend and a bit of confidence so who knows what might happen.”

As the transfer window approaches, the FA has still not delivered a verdict on whether Chester City must honour their £30,000 transfer agreement for Motors striker Paul Taylor – who tested positive in a drug test while on loan at the League Two club.
