Swans boss in call for consistency

CHRISTLETON boss Paul Hughes knows his players can’t afford to have another off day tomorrow when they swap their championship ambitions for trophy ones.

The Swans travel to South Cheshire to face Crewe FC in the Cheshire Amateur Cup.

Hughes hopes his side can recapture the winning habit quickly after suffering a 3-1 loss at Runcorn Town Reserves in the league on Saturday.

He said: “I had six or seven players who didn’t perform at Runcorn and it was disappointing. Adam Bedford, Paul Holyfield, Paul Kenyon and Lee Butterworth put in performances, the rest didn’t.

“We can play a lot better football than that. It is not unusual for players to have an off day but for so many on the same day, that is unexpected.”

Hughes welcomes winger Adam Kelly and striker Paul Sweeney back after absences.

Blacon YC are still winless and without a point yet this term, so they will want to capitalise on the chance of a morale- boosting cup win when they visit Poynton. Chester Nomads take on familiar opposition when they face fellow Division Two side Helsby at home.

Willaston will make the trip to Crewe side Bentley while Capenhurst Villa of Division Two welcome Division Three side St Werburgh’s.

There is league action in Division Three, where Blacon YC Reserves host Capenhurst Villa Reserves. Both sides have had difficult starts to their season, but both have a win under their belts so the points are there for whoever is on their game.

Christleton Reserves will hope to bounce back from their Chester FA Cup disappointment last week as they entertain Southport Trinity Reserves, while Upton AA Reserves, having won four of their opening six games, will try to add Richmond Raith Rovers Jacobs to their list of victims.
