Waggon on top in eight-goal thriller

WAGGON and Horses outscored Hoole Rangers in a goal-fest on Wednesday.

Newton Bears’ home game against Sutton Way Villa was shaping up to be a classic with Villa leading 5-3 when the game was abandoned on 77 minutes due to an injury.

Kelsall’s John Devonport fired three as his side defeated travelling Kydds Athletic 5-1. James Thompson and Jordan Smith completed the rout.

Highfield Athletic also won 5-1, this time away from home at City Bar. Adam Langton, Aaron Stokoe, Chris Larson, Neil Fields and a penalty from Rob Joyson proved decisive.

Helsby were unlucky not to take something from their home game against AFC Bebington Reserves. Mark Richards and Mark Hobson scored for the hosts, but by half-time Chris Oakley, James Houghton and an own goal had given Bebington a 3-2 lead and that is how the game ended.

Robin Hood had a 1-0 advantage stolen from them when Parkgate visited them and left with a point.

Kevin Gilchrist had opened the scoring for Hood but a second-half strike from Andy Marr ensured the points were shared.

Saughall Thursday also threw away a lead, but finished empty-handed, losing 2-1 to visitors Duddon United.

Luke Hughes had given the Division One new-boys the lead by half-time, but a comeback from Duddon saw Lee Guiardo bag a brace to snatch maximum points.
