Vics fall short in fightback

Tarporley Vics 3 Denton Town 5

HENRY Buckley attempted to single-handedly revive Vics after they went 5-0 down to Denton Town inside 35 minutes. But his hat-trick proved too little, too late as Vics gifted Town the win.

Buckley’s first came just before the break after Division Two debutants Denton had scored the last of their goals.

Changes were made at the interval with the introduction of Clacher and Pattinson.

Buckley prodded home his second after good work from Moore and Clacher and, with 20 minutes to go, Darren Richards’ free kick was steered home by the Vics hitman, securing his second hat-trick of the season.

Malpas 1 Golborne Sports 5: Missing players have hampered Malpas’ start to the season and their resources were overstretched again on Saturday as they fell to a heavy home defeat.

Having gone a goal down in the first half due to sloppy defending, Malpas – their squad weakened by player absences until the cricket season ends – drew level through Jack Oakden before the break.

But it was a brief respite for Robbie McWilliams’ men as in the second half Golborne moved up a gear.

Two of their goals were disputed by Malpas as they were close to being offside, but both stood and the visitors eventually finished strongly.
