Five-star Christleton add to Blacon’s woes

CHRISTLETON compounded Blacon YC’s nightmare start to the season by winning their midweek derby 5-1 on Wednesday.

The win meant the Swans kept pace with the early front-runners in Division One.

Both Christleton and Blacon suffered defeats on Friday – losing to Halton (3-0) and Vauxhall Motors Reserves (4-2) respectively. Mike Machin and Adam Stenan were the Blacon marksmen.

Upton AA pegged back a strong Runcorn side looking for their fourth win in five on Wednesday. The Chester hosts held them to a 2-2 draw. It was the same score on Saturday as goals from Simon Andrews and Martin Gaulton earned Upton a draw at West Kirby.

In Division Two on Wednesday, Chester Nomads were downed 3-2 at home to Ellesmere Port outfit Grange Athletic. Goals by Mark Crossan, Earl Harris and Dan Riley had given Nomads a 3-0 away success over Mallaby on Saturday.

Capenhurst’s trip to Manor Athletic on Wednesday was postponed but they did play on Monday night, comprehensively beating Mallaby 4-1 at home.

Tom McGill scored the only goal for Cape on Friday as they were hammered 5-1 at Ashville.

Helsby drew 1-1 with Willaston on Monday having chalked up a handsome 4-0 success at Maghull Reserves on Saturday. Ed Heskey, Wayne Linnett, Gary Lunt and M Connor found the back if the net for Helsby.

There were a host of Division Three games on Monday.

Blacon YC Reserves defeated St Werburgh’s 3-0, giving the Blacon side their first win of the campaign. Christleton Reserves hosted local rivals Upton AA Reserves and emerged 1-0 winners.

Division Three sides take part in the Shield competition tomorrow, with Blacon entertaining Southport Trinity Reserves, Capenhurst Villa Reserves hosting Hale, St Werburgh’s travelling to Marshalls, Christleton visiting Richmond Raith Rovers Jacobs and Upton playing Pensby at home.
