DAVE Alexander spearheaded West Cheshire AC’s charge at the English National Cross Country Championships.
The distance runner covered the 12km course at Alton Towers, Staffordshire, in 215th position with a time of 42 minutes and 35 seconds.
He was joined in the men’s race, which attracted 1,300 finishers, by club colleagues Jeff Kettle (427th in 46:20), Andrew Clague (433rd in 46:24) and David Hough (1,121st in 60:40).
Megan McEveley competed for West Cheshire in the U13 girls event and posted 180th position in a time of 16:51 for the 3km course.
West Cheshire’s Mark Lathom completed the U13 boys 3km event in a time of 10:09 for 138th position.
Yousef Khalifa, Matthew Pagan, Laura Rigby, Olivia Montez-Brown, Ross McCormick, Danielle Erskine and Andrew Gore warmed up for West Cheshire’s track and field season with appearances at Sport City in the Manchester Indoor Open Meeting.
Khalifa clocked 8.16 seconds in the U17 men’s 60m and long jumped 4.49m, while Pagan posted 8.38 seconds in his U15 boys 60m and Rigby competed in the U17 women’s 60m and clocked 8.38 seconds.
Montez-Brown completed the U17 women’s 60m hurdles in 9.35 seconds and long jumped 5.26m, while McCormick negotiated the U15 boys 60m hurdles in a time of 9.21 seconds and Erskine achieved 4.92m in the U20 women’s long jump. Gore catapulted himself to a 3.35m clearance in the men’s pole vault.
Stephen Skates represented West Cheshire AC in the Nice-Monaco Half Marathon and finished 16th in a time of one hour, 12 minutes and 35 seconds.
Thirteen West Cheshire AC youngsters will represent Cheshire at the North West Regional Sportshall Athletics Finals at Wigan on Sunday (February 27).
Other fixtures this weekend include the West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Race Series final round at Stanney Oaks track, Ellesmere Port, on Saturday (10am start with free entry).
