MICHAEL Bailiff and Amy Williams were the stars of the show as West Cheshire AC finished second in Sunday’s fourth and final round of the Cheshire League held at their Ellesmere Port home.
Michael cleared a new personal best grade-one height of 1.73 to win the Under 15 boys high jump A title. Ryan Jones (1.30) made it a double in the B competition, while Liam Banks (2A 12.4G4), Yousef Khalifa (2C 14.2) and Phil Hughes (2D 13.4) impressed in the 100m.
Pushing Michael all the way was Amy, who posted a grade-one time of 28.2 for victory in the U13 girls 200m B. Chloe Hunt (2C 31.8) and Sophie Percival (2D 33.9) competed well in the same event, while Sally Pickering (2:54.4) won the 800m C&D. Sophie (2B 6.35G4) picked up valuable points in the shot.
Max Himbury (long jump 1B 3.81, 100m 2A 13.2G2), James McMahon (javelin 2A 26.63G3), Oliver Ashworth (1,500m 2C&D 6:08.0) and Alex Kirk (javelin 2B 21.04) powered to U13s boys top-two finishes.
Ali Birkett (2A 27.3G3), Jenna Sheehy (2C 29.0) and Kelly Baker (1D 29.0) stood out for Wests’ U15s girls in the 200m. There were also second places for Jenna (2C&D 2:56.9) in the 800m and Olivia Montez-Brown (A 4.62) and Kelly(B 4.04) in the long jump. Baker (A 22.01G4) and Lucy Earl (B 18.48) bettered those positions by triumphing in the discus.
Rob Tudor won the men’s 1,500m A&B in 4:38.6, while John Manning (2B 25.6), Tom Booth (2B 25.3) and Alan Littler (1D 26.4) proved a handful in the 200m. Chris Goodwin clocked a winning time of 9:49.2 in the 3,000m as Booth (2B 5.13) came close to replicating that achievement in the long jump.
Niamh Reilly (A 20.52) and Emily Clarke (B 17.28) teamed up for success in the women’s discus, a feat match by Danielle Erskine (A 26.6) and Bryony Potter (B 27.8) in the 200m. Reilly (A 1.30) and Erskine (B 1.20) were also second in the high jump.
Steve Jones (100m 2A 11.8G4, long jump 2A 5.30), David Donkin (100m 2B 12.9, discus 2A 20.87), Sam Rimmer (100m 2C 12.8, long jump 2B 4.39, discus 1B 18.10) and Christian Gosse (100m 1D 12.5) did the most damage for Wests in the U17s boys events.
Georgia Barlow (75m 1A 11.2), Olivia Williams (soft javelin 1A 16.85) and Sophie Baker (soft javelin 1B 12.06) were Wests’ U11s winners.
