Athletics: King’s School can’t catch Upton

UPTON High School ran away with the Chester District Minor Girls Athletics title by 25 points.

Despite a spirited fight by The King’s School on the track, Upton, just like their boys team, were strong in the field as well.

In the 100m E Durkin won for Upton, chased down by Christleton’s J Finnerty and B Cowell.

L Kelly took the 200m title for Upton, with schoolmate O Eberandu placing third. R Ried split them for Bishops’.

Then the King’s School came to the fore, with L Armitage seizing the 800m ahead of Bishop Heber’s E Walker-Smith and Christleton’s R Nibs.

D Tuite, won gold in the 1,500m for King’s, with E Riley of Christleton and H Lannin of Chester Catholic High trailing. The hurdles prize went to A Williams of the Queen’s School.

Upton extended their lead by winning the relay before the field events.

There S Reay beat Bishop Heber’s H Waker and King’s K Everton in the javelin and L Kelly overcame Bishops’ L Charles Jones and Abbey Gate’s A Williams in the discus to seal overall victory.

The shot belonged top W Massey of Blacon over S Chamberlain of Catholic High and S Lee of Upton.

Bishops’ A P-Harrison won the long jump, Upton’s C Chesworth and H Crim of Mostyn House in second and third.

The high jump went to J Finnerty of Christleton, with E Durkin second and O Reynolds of Queen’s School third.
