Harriers step up bid for finals place

ATHLETES from Halton and Frodsham Harriers are still on course for the North West Sportshall League finals in March.

The club kept alive the possibility of all age groups reaching the finals following the league’s latest fixture at the Robin Park indoor centre in Wigan.

Frodsham’s under 11 girls were the club’s top performers, finishing second in their age group.

The squad comprised Molly Clarke, Jessica Dexter, Anabelle Kitchen, Georgia Massey, Megan McEveley, Jenny Pyatt, Emily Ross and Jess Wright.

In the two-lap sprints, Jess picked up the second A points in 24.4 seconds and Anabelle the second B points in 26.0. The pair fared better in the four-lap races, Jess winning the first A points in 53.8 and Anabelle taking the 1st B in 56.9.

The standing long jump 1st A and 1st B points were also won by Jess (2.03m) and Anabelle (2m).

Megan, with a best effort of 42cm, won the second A place and Molly took the fourth B with 30cm in the vertical jump.

There were two third places in the speed bounce for the girls, Molly scoring with a 50 and Jenny close with a 47.

Other highlights saw Emily, Megan, Anabelle and Jess placed third in the relay (one minute 43.9 seconds).

Ellie Hayes, Kate Merrill, Katy Morgan, Amy Pearson, Emma Pyatt and Emma Scott helped Frodsham’s U13 girls finish fourth.

Amy took the first points with a second A in the two-lap in 24.6, Emma Scott taking the third B points in 25.5.

There was a double victory for the team in the speed bounce, with Amy winning the A points (82) and Emma Scott taking the B with 77. Katy, Emma Pyatt, Emma Scott and Amy were the relay squad finishing in third place (1:40.9).

The U11s boys squad – comprising Steven Baker, Luke Bratt, Tom Merrill and Ben Sutcliffe – finished fourth.

Ben put the first points on the board with a third A in the two-lap (25.7). Steven had an equal third A result in the chest push with 4.75m and in the relay the quartet were third in 1:48.1.

James Baker was the sole U13 boy competing, but scored valuable points for the club – beginning with a splendid third place in the six-lap (1:29.3) and taking the fourth A points in the long jump (1.57m).

Mark Deeprose and David Hayes helped Frodsham’s U15 boys team claim third.
