DARREN Scott completed his wonder season with a medal at the Stewarts Scottish National Championships and a prized scalp.
He beat former European and Commonwealth 400m champion and 4x400m Olympic silver medallist Iwan Thomas on his way to 200m bronze at Pitreavie, Fife.
The 39-year-old Frodsham sprinter defied poor conditions to clock 21.77 for third place in Sunday’s final to leave Thomas trailing in fifth.
It was, according to Scott (sixth over 100m in 10.72), a memorable ending to a perfect campaign.
The highlights included completing a Grand Slam of veterans titles at world and European level and being part of Great Britain’s world record-breaking Masters 35 relay team.
Scott also helped Trafford AC return to the British Athletics League’s Premiership as Division One champs.
He admitted: “Years like this don’t come around very often. I have won everything I wanted to.”
