COUNCIL officials in Wrexham are working to make sure all eligible residents can have their say on polling day, despite the fact a general election has yet to be called.
Electoral registration officer Isobel Garner and her staff have been sending forms to households in Wrexham to compile a new electoral register that will be the basis for next year’s elections.
By completing and returning the form Wrexham’s voters will be making sure they will be able to have their say on what matters to them.
Isobel said: “It’s simple to register, all you have to do is complete the annual canvass form that will be coming through your letterbox over the coming weeks and you’ll be able to help choose the people who make the decisions which affect your everyday life.
“For some people, this may be the first General Election they get to take part in and may be worried about what to do. You can find out more by calling 01978 292020 or go to www.aboutmyvote.co.uk.”
Kay Jenkins, head of the Electoral Commission’s Wales Office, said: “There’s a General Election coming between now and June 2010, If you’re not registered to vote, then you can’t make a decision about who represents you in Westminster.”
