Police appeal for witnesses to ram raid on The Bike Shop, Wrexham

A STOLEN car smashed through the front of a cycle shop in a failed ram raid.

The raiders caused severe structural damage when they drove a VW Golf through the front window of the store in Wrexham in the early hours of yesterday. The gang sped off without taking anything and later abandoned the car.

Police have looked at CCTV tapes from the area, and believe they had been ‘casing’ The Bike Shop, Stansty Road, earlier.

Witnesses say it was the second ram raid on the store in less than two months.

Launching an appeal for witnesses, a North Wales Police spokeswoman said: “Shortly after 3am a car was driven through the shop window causing substantial structural damage. The car then drove off at speed toward Plas Coch.

“Nearby CCTV images have been viewed and the offenders are believed to have been checking the premises while on foot prior to committing the offence, and officers are particularly keen on speaking to a member of the public who walked past the offenders during this time, as he or she may have vital information that could assist police.”

The vehicle – a silver Golf – was believed to have been stolen and was later found in Acton Park.
