NIGHTINGALE House Hospice is inviting people to ‘come and sing’ Handel’s Messiah in the Stiwt Theatre, Rhos, as part of World Hospice Day and Voices for Hospices 2009.
Voices for Hospices is a musical Mexican wave of simultaneous concerts around the globe which takes place every two years on World Hospice Palliative Care day, in recognition of the work of hospices throughout the world.Š
The theme for World Hospice day 2009 is Discovering your Voice and Nightingale House has teamed up with Mervyn Cousins, executive director for the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod and musical director for the Cantorion Rhos Choir, to host the event next Saturday, October 10.
Margaret Hollings, community fundraiser, said: “We are extremely grateful to Mervyn Cousins for volunteering his time to the hospice – this is going to be a fantastic event that should not be missed!”
Whether you are a member of a choir, choral society, group of friends or an individual who shares a passion for singing, come along and sing Messiah on stage under the musical direction of Mervyn. The mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Arwel Jones, has already registered.
If you have not done anything like this before, or if you are unfamiliar with the piece, there are two rehearsals – today (Thursday) from 7-9.30pm and on Tuesday at 7.30pm.
The event starts at 1.30pm with a choral workshop during the afternoon, followed by the formal concert at 7.30pm in the Stiwt.
Tickets are £12, or £10 for bookings of 10 singers or more. Tickets to see the performance, rather than sing, are £10 from the income generation office (01978 314292) or the Stiwt Theatre box office, Rhos (01978 841300).
