Football: Elements Cefn Druids lose again in Welsh Premier League

A SPIRITED late rally could not stop struggling Elements Cefn Druids from going down 1-0 at home to Welsh Premier League full-timers Neath on Saturday.

Craig Steins’ deflected 18th-minute effort settled the contest but the hosts did go close to grabbing a point in the dying stages when Lee T Jones hit the bar with a volley before Gary Penlington fired over when well placed.

Druids make the trip to top-flight rivals and holders Bangor City on Saturday for a daunting Welsh Cup second-round tie (2.30pm) before hosting Technogroup Welshpool on Tuesday in their final Loosemores Challenge Cup Group Five clash (7.30pm).

Saturday was an afternoon of woe for Wrexham’s Cymru Alliance trio as they crashed out of the League Cup.

Lex XI lost their preliminary-round clash at home to Bethesda Athletic 2-1 while, in the first round, Llangollen Town went down 1-0 at Denbigh Town and Gresford Athletic 3-1 at Llandudno.

It’s Welsh Cup combat on Saturday as Lex host Welsh Premier League Airbus UK Broughton and Llangollen and Gresford entertain Welsh Alliance opposition in Glan Conwy and Llanrug United respectively.

A Wrexham Welsh National League Premier Division duo are also in second-round action, with Borras Park Albion making their way to top-flight new boys Bala Town and Coedpoeth United to Mid Wales League outfit Llansantffraid Village.
