A MAN who was caught selling counterfeit DVD films in Wrexham and who had a number of pornographic films in his car boot, had made illegal profits of £259,500, a court heard.
But following a specialist police financial investigation under the Proceeds of Crime, the available amount was £809.
Judge John Rogers QC, sitting at Mold Crown Court, made a confiscation order in that amount.
Zhang Wu, 43, who followed proceedings with the aid of an interpreter, had in April admitted four trademark offences and four charges of possessing unclassified video films with intent to sell them.
He was jailed for six months and a previous three month suspended prison sentence for precisely the same offences was imposed – making nine months in all.
The court heard Wu was stopped in Bridge Street, Wrexham, on March 6, following an alert from a pub licensee via the shop link radio system to the town’s CCTV operators.
James Cullen, prosecuting, said the defendant had a plastic carrier bag containing 83 dvds, a shoulder bag containing 138 dvds and in the boot of his car police found DVDs of a sexual nature.
