Crowell to go under knife

WREXHAM midfielder Matty Crowell is poised to go under the knife for keyhole surgery in an attempt to figure out the mystery injury which has kept him out since the start of the season.

The exploratory procedure on his knee takes place this afternoon and Crowell is eager to get a quick diagnosis on his condition.

He said: "We don't really know what's wrong with me so I just want to get in there so the doctors can take a look.

"Nobody has been able to put their finger on it and it's all been very frustrating.

"I've had the problem ever since the second day back in pre-season training and I don't even know how it happened.

"The pain just came on when we were doing agility jumps and it got worse in the afternoon.

"By the time I got home that evening, I could hardly even walk." Despite being unable to kick a ball in anger so far this season, Crowell was selected for Wales' under-21 international squad against Malta although he subsequently had to withdraw through injury.

He said: "It was a real boost at the time but I couldn't take part.

"I was also on standby for the England game and that would have been a great experience but again I missed out.

"It's always special representing your country and I'm gutted that I've missed a big game like that.

"I've already played under three different managers at under-21 level for Wales but I have been enjoying every minute of the experience."
