Jones fit for role on bench

WREXHAM'S keeper crisis has been averted after Michael Jones came through a training session with flying colours.

Dragons manager Denis Smith had been sweating over the fitness of the Liverpool-born reserve keeper after the youngster damaged the same wrist he had injured last season.

The knock could have left Wrexham without a goalkeeper on the bench to deputise for Mike Ingham in the opening game of the campaign at home to Boston United tomorrow.

But boss Smith confirmed yesterday that Jones was all set to take his place on the Dragons' bench after stepping up training when an X-ray on Monday showed that the damage was not as bad as initially feared.

"Michael is fine," he said.. "He had no problems in training and will be fit for selection."

However, there was less positive news regarding the fitness of Matt Crowell and Jim Whitley.

"Jim has no chance of making Saturday and Matt won't be playing either."
