Robbery suspect shot by officers

A suspected armed robber has been shot by police and remains in hospital, the Independent Police Complaints Commission said.

Investigators from the IPCC were called in after the shooting at around 10.30pm on Friday night.

Officers stopped three men on Blackburn Road in Haslingden, Lancashire, as part of a "planned operation", the force said.

One man was shot and remains in hospital in a "serious but stable" condition.

The other two were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
