Obama makes nuclear weapons pledge

The threat of global nuclear war has gone down, but the risk of a nuclear attack has gone up, US President Barack Obama said.

He said the US was "ready to lead", had a "moral responsibility to act" and stood for the right of everybody to live free of fear in the 21st century.

Mr Obama said America was committed to "seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons" and, repeating his key slogan from last year's presidential election, added that it was time for those who said the world could not change to be told: "Yes we can".
