Millions see Tom win Strictly title

More than 13 million viewers tuned in to watch Holby City actor Tom Chambers take the Strictly Come Dancing crown, the BBC announced.

The newlywed, 31, won over the public in the reality show, which has been mired in controversy this year.

Figures from the Broadcasters' Audience Research Board (BARB) showed that on average 11.7m viewers watched the first of the two final shows on Saturday night, representing a 47.7% share of the audience.

The second show drew in an average of 12.2m viewers, equating to a 49.6% audience share, and hit a peak of 13.3m, according to the BARB results.

BBC One controller Jay Hunt said: "Last night millions were captivated by the Strictly Come Dancing final and the sight of Tom lifting the winner's trophy.

"Unmissable family entertainment is at the very heart of BBC One and there will be lots more to enjoy over the Christmas period."
