Getting ready for a floral summer

Further Information

The colourful flowers of spring have arrived in many parts of Cheshire, heralding a new season and the coming of the warmer months of the year. While many minds will be focused on booking holidays and getaways over the summer period, theres plenty to look forward to around the region for those looking to get out and about in the sunshine.

One of the highlights of the summer is the Royal Horticultural Societys annual show at Tatton Park in Knutsford. This years event takes place between July 20th and July 24th, and tickets are already on sale.

The show features the presentation of RHS awards for some of Britains best garden concepts and designs. Last year, the gold award in the Visionary Garden category went to Tony Smith, Derek Smith and John Humphreys for the dazzling entry entitled A Matter of Time, which featured an alien lying in a crater planted with lettuces!

Another gold winner in 2010 was John Everiss Wave Dance a nursery that was designed to capture the moment a wave breaks on the shore, using grasses, perennials, topiary and cobbles. The awards will be back again in 2011, with the RHS Young Designer of the Year award also up for grabs.

As well as taking in the award entrants, those in attendance at the RHS show will be able to enjoy the full range of show gardens, new innovations in garden furniture, flower arrangements, displays, stalls and landscapes.

There will be some exquisite food stalls serving locally-sourced delights throughout the show, all within the picturesque setting of Tatton Park one of the UKs best-loved historic estates.

While exploring the RHS show and the 1,000 acre Tatton Hall deer park, you might also develop an urge to fill your house with the many flowers you have discovered.
