Green launch for Chester’s new waste collection and recycling contract
CHESTER’S multi million pound waste collection service was launched at a green-themed family event in the city centre.
The new system, which will be rolled out across the former Chester City Council district from May, enables residents to recycle even more at the kerbside, reducing the amount of rubbish that goes to landfill.
Every household covered by the scheme will receive an information pack with details about the new service, supported by a comprehensive communications campaign.
The new waste collection service consists of a new blue wheeled bin for paper and card, plastic bottles and bags, food and drink cans, aluminium foil and textiles with a caddy inside the bin for glass bottles and jars and batteries.
There will be a green wheeled bin for garden waste and the present brown wheeled bins will be used for household waste that cannot be recycled.
Experts were on hand to answer residents' questions about the new service.
The city council’s executive member for environment, Cllr Jill Houlbrook, (Con, Upton Grange) said:"With the support and cooperation of local residents we should be able to increase substantially our recycling rate while reducing the amount of rubbish we send to landfill, two things that are good news for local council tax payers and for the environment."
