Italian theme to city parade
CHESTER’S city streets were lit up as schoolchildren brought a taste of Italy to the city.
Youngsters from Huntington, Guilden Sutton, The Arches, Christleton, Hoole and J H Godwin primary schools and Pine Lodge paraded through the city centre with hand-made lanterns, accompanied by live music.
The two lantern parades were themed on Venetian carnival masks and the Italian Renaissance. The event attracted television interest and some of the children were interviewed on BBC North West Tonight.
Chester Rows took on an Italian flavour as brass players from Cheshire Youth Orchestra working with Manchester Camerata performed antiphonal pieces by Gabrieli, music that was once heard in St Mark's Square.
